Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) refers to diseases of blood vessels outside the heart and brain. It is often a narrowing or blockage of the vessels that carry blood to the legs. This deprives the legs of blood circulation. PAD patients have an increased risk of a heart attack or stroke and commonly experience leg cramps, fatigue, and pain during any activity (called ‘intermittent claudication’). It is often accompanied by ulcers that do not heal.
VesCell™ creates new blood vessels and repairs damaged blood vessels thus feeding the limbs more blood. The increased blood flow results in greater mobility and decreased pain. Ulcers can be healed by the resulting improvement in blood flow. In severe cases, VesCell™ may be able to save lower limbs from amputation.
